Academic Programmes


The department of Computer Science currently offers one academic programme:

  • Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) in Computer Science



  The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science is designed to emphasize the science and technology of computing.  It is intended to develop undergraduate students to meet the challenges of self-employment and as professionals in various sectors of the economy.



The aim is to provide the students with sound theoretical and practical training in computing with a viewing to acquiring necessary skills that will make them to be useful citizens to the Society and providing services in the oil and manufacturing industries, banks, business and finance houses, educational institutions and government ministries and parastatals for an egalitarian society.



The objectives of the programme are to enable students to:

  1. 1.demonstrate knowledge in computer science and skills in computer application
  2. 2.understand and be able to identify the basic problems of the society and profer appropriate computer solutions to them;
  3. 3.explain the concepts and fundamental principles of computing for proper education of their immediate environment and the society at large;
  4. 4.outline new developments in computer science with special interest in the promotion of entrepreneurship.



Applicants seeking admission into the Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science must satisfy the following requirements;

Category A (UME Admission):

  1. Five (5) credits in not more than two sittings in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other science subject in SSCE/NECO examination.


  1. Pass the UME examination in the following subjects: English Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.


Category B (Direct Entry):

(iii)In addition to the SSCE/NECO requirements, candidates shall be required to possess two ‘A’ passes with a minimum of 6.0 points aggregate in Mathematics and Physics.

(iv)National Diploma in Computer Science with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology.




The period for the completion of the B.Sc programme is a minimum of eight (8) semesters and a maximum of twelve (12) semesters through UTME; and a minimum of six (6) semesters and a maximum of ten (10) semesters through Direct Entry for a full-time degree.


To be awarded a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) Degree in Computer Science, the student must pass a minimum Credit of 196 Units, distributed as follows:


Compulsory Courses(including Project/Dissertation)

 132 Credit Units


General Studies Courses

  22 Credit Units


Elective Courses

  12 Credit Units



 166 Credit Units
